Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson

The year is 1793 and The Yellow Fever is raging in the city of Philadelphia. Mattie Cook, at age 14 is adventurous and despises the thought of being sent to the countryside as many other kids are to escape the yellow fever. people are spending less time near the ocean because they think that was were the yellow fever came from there. Then her mother grows ill and she and her grandfather try to go to the countryside but get turned away in  thought that they have the fever. Mattie realizes that you can’t hold on to everything when she can’t find her mother. She also realizes that the most important thing to do is survive.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys books about the past. Also, if you want to read this book you need to be able to read intense books.I’m telling you, this is no “Barney and Friends”. I would recommend this book for age 10 and up. I would give it four stars because it brought you into the story.
